Anoushka Shankar is popular on many accounts. Daughter of Sitar Maestro Ravi Shankar and sister of Norah Jones. Child prodigy, sitar player and composer, 5 times nominated for Grammy and a composer featured in the UK A-level music syllabus. Although an honor’s student at high school, she decided to make a career in music and has achieved phenomenal success as a musician. As an adolescent, she has performed with her father and musicians from disparate genres such as Zakir Hussain and George Harrison. Anoushka recently released the album ‘Land of Gold’ featuring vocalist Alev Lenz, hang percussionist Manu Delago and Caroline Dale on cello. The title track has a haunting melody and the album is “dedicated to the plight of refugees”. The vocals and instrumentals blend harmoniously. In her father’s words, Anoushka “… is more acquainted with today. So she is richer.” Indeed. Anoushka is constantly demonstrating her ability to not only emulate her father but also explore new territories and collaborate with renowned musicians across the globe. Music lovers from Fort Wayne and surrounding cities are in for a treat from this talented, young sitarist, thanks to Shruti and IPFW!
